In BIRTHDAY GIRL, Nicole Kidman plays a mail-order (e-mail, that is) Russian bride whose marriage to an English banker (Ben Chaplin) has been arranged over the Internet. As it turns out, the arrangement is not as innocent and anonymous as it seems, and upon the bride's arrival in England, the banker finds himself in serious danger.

Lonely milquetoast British bank clerk (Ben Chaplin) goes to the Internet to find a Russian bride and gets a bit more than he bargained for, like Nicole Kidman, which can't be a bad thing. But he also gets her two "cousins" (Mathieu Kassovitz & Vincent Cassel), who have their own ideas about what this "marriage" is going to be all about. This diverting-but-forgettable cross-cultural romantic caper comedy is more discomforting than all that funny, and none of the characters are particularly likable. But Nicole holds what there is together with another spot-on performance.
